International Sales Director Industry & Power

Mission of the job

Develops the world wide Power, Oil & Gas and related markets to grow the sales of the Industrial products of the Mors Smitt Group. Lead the international sales team to accomplish the mission and is specifically responsible for certain Key Accounts and develops the EU and LATAM regions. Formulates the strategy and translates this into actions enabling the organization to meet its ambitious growth plans.

Description of tasks and duties

1. Sales management

You will:

  • Coordinate of the international sales team and develop the EU and LATAM regions.
  • Develop new markets by either entering into geographies where we are currently not present, or by expanding our existing presence in markets where we have a limited market exposure.
  • Maintain contact and strengthen relationship with existing customers.
  • Set conditions to open new channels by managing technical type approvals, design-in and sales conditions.
  • Manage inquiries, preparing technical and commercial proposals as well as negotiating and finalizing contracts together with the inbound sales team.
  • Contribute to business plan and deliver sales plan per country/activity.
  • Develop go-to-market strategy and identify and qualify business opportunities.
  • Make budget proposals and realizes approved plans, sales budgets and margins.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with the company factories and offices.
  • Organize local sales/technical support from company as required by customers.
  • Lead and assist regional sales reps, distributors and agents.
  • Strategic sales/market policy issues to be discussed with VP Sales & Marketing and approved by the GMD.
  • Keep in close contact with sales managers from other regions concerning cross continental projects.

2. Marketing

  • Investigate market and detects trends and specific market/customer needs for each customer segment and each product family.
  • Advice marketing strategies per country/activity.
  • Coordinate in marketing communication activity per country/activity like exhibitions, seminars, product promotions/introductions…etc.
  • Assist in developing product datasheets, leaflets, website…etc.
  • Take initiative to start sales promotion.

3. General

  • Report to the VP Sales & Marketing Mors Smitt – Netherlands who reports to the Group Managing Director.
  • Organize and responsible for all relevant reporting.
  • Present sales plans and budgets per region.
  • Keep product/application know how up to date (in-company training).
  • Perform all acts, duties and obligations and comply with such orders as designated by the company and which are reasonably consistent with the job title.
  • You are willing to travel at least 50% of your time.

Job characteristics

Skills and know how.

  • Has technical background/experience.
  • Industrial or B-to-B marketing/product management.
  • Sales driven, hands on, self-starter who can build and grow a successful business. (natural sales talent, “nose” for the business)
  • Good technical understanding and genuine interest for the electrical utility/power transmission and distribution and industrial automation markets.
  • Proven knowledge of go-to-market strategy for these businesses.
  • A background in providing solutions to complex customer technical problems.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering continuing sales growth.
  • Affinity with technology, knowledge of protection and control technology trends unique to the electrical utility/power transmission and distribution market, and the industrial automation market.
  • High energy level, self-motivated person / used to work stand alone
  • Speaks and understands:
    • English; Professional working proficiency
    • Spanish; Professional working proficiency
  • It is beneficial having Portuguese as an additional language
  • Systematic and organized.
  • Skillful with PC and software. (MS Office, familiar with ERP and CRM systems)
  • Driving license: B
Education
 
  • BSc / Bachelor-level in technical discipline preferably within Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering.
  • Several commercial trainings.

Experience

  • At least 10 years experience in a commercial management position.
  • At least 5 years technical sales experience in the Power market.
  • Experience in B-to-B sales to technical customers (engineers, purchasers)
  • Sales experience in B-to-B.

Main Purpose

  • Plan and execute the technical activities associated to the delivery phase of Mors Smitt systems projects, liaising with the customer and other stakeholders.
  • Support the start-up and execution phases of Mors Smitt systems projects, liaising with the customer and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in Mors Smitt product development activities, ensuring the product development pipeline is aligned to customer and market requirements.
  • Participate in Mors Smitt tendering activities, ensuring the solutions offered match customer requirements whilst maximising Mors Smitt win ratio and profitability.

Main Duties/Function

Project Start-Up:

  • Creation of System and Product level requirements specification documents; taking input from customer specifications, applicable standards (e.g. Railway Group Standards and Euro Norms) and Mors Smitt design guides.
  • Interpret and communicate relevant requirements to the design (both internal and sub-contract).
  • Defining interface documentation, reviewing with all parties, on-going monitoring throughout the life of the project.

Project Execution:

  • Generation of Project Documentation for internal use and customer issue (e.g. Requirements Specs, Test Plans and Reports, FMECAs, Fault Trees, RAMS Plans and Reports, V&V Plans and Reports, Progress Reports, Open Issues Lists etc.).
  • Technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options.
  • Working with customer to overcome technical issues and manage the requirements with the aim of optimising Mors Smitt’s cost and revenues associated to the project.
  • Planning and executing formal type testing at accredited test houses.
  • Liaising between the customer and the design teams.

Project Delivery:

  • Work with other internal teams (e.g. Purchasing and Production) to create the required Production Data (BOMs, Build Instructions, Test Instructions etc.).
  • Supporting system integration activities at customer sites in UK and Worldwide.
  • Supporting system commissioning and/or system training at customer sites in UK and Worldwide.
  • Supporting the customer with in-service issues with the aim of improving the reliability and availability of the delivered systems.

Educational / Quals.

Essential

· HNC Level Electrical / Electronic Engineering and/or Software Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering.

Desirable

· Degree Level Electrical / Electronic Engineering and/or Software Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering.

Practical Experience

Essential

· Systems / Project Engineering experience in a product / system design environment, with products / systems that incorporate FPGAs, microprocessors, analogue / digital electronics and ruggedized mechanical packaging.

Desirable

· Systems / Project Engineering experience related to product / system design of trainbourne equipment

· Worked on Safety Related Projects (SIL2 or higher as defined in standards EN50126/8/9 or EN61508).

Skills & Competence Level

Essential

  • A good ‘Working Knowledge’ of the main Engineering disciplines (Electrical / Electronic Design, Software Design, Mechanical Packaging Design, System Design and System Integration).
  • Highly intelligent with strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Sound understanding of the system design process (including System and Sub-System Specification, System Test, Integration and Certification).
  • Good verbal and written communications, including ‘Customer Facing’ skills.
  • A willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Main Purpose

  • Responsible for on-time / on-budget delivery of Mors Smitt systems projects.
  • Participate in Mors Smitt product development activities, ensuring the product development pipeline is aligned to customer and market requirements.

Main Duties/Function

  • Creation and on-going maintenance of the overall project plan and budget baseline with all necessary metrics.
  • Creation and implementation of the Project Quality Plan, the Configuration Management Plan, the Risk Register and the Open Issues Lists.
  • Commercial / Contract review and negotiation with the customer, design subcontractors and services sub-contractors (e.g. test houses, certification bodies) with the aim of minimising scope creep and identifying customer chargeable variations.
  • Customers main contact point for all issues and questions, managed through regular project review meetings.
  • Producing regular project status reports for customer and Mors Smitt management purposes.
  • Day to day resource management of project team.

Practical Experience

Essential

· Previous Project Management experience in a product / system design environment.

Desirable

· Previous Project Management experience in a product / system design environment of trainbourne equipment.
