Market characteristics
The railway world is characterized by a tough and uncompromising working environment.
Constant shock & vibration, dust, temperature and humidity variations and electric
disturbances mean that components must work under harsh conditions. This puts heavy demands on their reliability. This is the world in which Mors Smitt has invested best efforts, parts and components that work unquestioningly, offer a long effective life and result in low lifecycle cost.

Railway directives
Our products are designed and compliant to the strictest railway directives, such as EN 50155 Electronic equipment used on rolling stock for railway applications, IEC 60571 Electronic equipment used on railway vehicles, and EN 50463 Energy measurement on board trains.
Portfolio
Mors Smitt components and solutions for rolling stock applications are categorized in the following portfolios:
Relays
Mors Smitt has the world’s widest relay range fit for all railway rolling stock applications. Innovation continues and Mors Smitt is a true relay specialist with expert knowledge in rolling stock applications.
Protection relays
Electrical protection relays for high voltage & high current protection offer protection in traction equipment as well as railway infrastructure. Protection relays are used for applications like catenary voltage, short circuit, overload and ground fault detection in traction power electronics or railway substations.
Hall effect sensors
Hall effect sensors (closed loop technology) ensure high accuracy of voltage and current measuring in railway traction or substation power equipment for protection against power surges, overload, ground fault detection. Hall effect measurement to offer maximum protection in railway applications.
Miniature circuit breakers
Hydraulic magnetic miniature circuit breakers (or MCB) designed according railway standards. Configurable electrical circuit breakers to meet specific railway requirements, like panel mount, dc, ground fault (gfci) and reset.
Traction energy management
Highly innovative sensor technology for on-board accurate voltage and current measuring. Key control functions like catenary detection are integrated in our MSAV solution. Easy integration with train management, information and/or energy measurement systems.
Integrated electrical solutions
New built or retro-fit, Mors Smitt delivers a perfect, competitive and on time solution for any onboard challenge of space limitations and / or technical requirements. No matter the size or quantities.
Panel indicators
Mors Smitt offers a wide range of panel indicators based on the ultra reliable and economic moving-coil technology. Mounting is usually in the driver desk to give direct computer independent reading of key values such as speed, volts, amps, bar, etc.
Door control units
Door control units are required for every modern railvehicle intended to move passengers. Safe operation of any passengerdoor is guarded by the DCU, translating the latest safety standards into safe door control functionalities.
