TPWS (Train Protection and Warning System) and AWS (Automatic Warning System).
AWS Acknowledge pushbuttonThe AWS Acknowledge pushbutton is part of the suite of cab controls and is mounted in a location easily accessible by the driver when seated in the active driving position.
AWS AlarmThe AWS Alarm is mounted inside the cab and gives an audible notification of the status of the next signal. A chime (or bell) is sounded when the signal is clear and a warning tone (or horn) when it is caution.
AWS Alarm and IndicatorOn most vehicles operating in the UK the AWS Alarm and Indicator functions are combined in a single unit.
AWS and TPWS Test Equipment
- Mors Smitt can supply all necessary test equipment to ensure the vehicle interfaces correctly with the track equipment. This test equipment is used to ensure that the installation complies with the relevant standards throughout the life of the vehicle.
- Mors Smitt can supply first of class characterisation, commissioning and maintenance testing equipment.
AWS IndicatorThe AWS Indicator (or sunflower) is mounted in the cab in the drivers field of vision whilst looking at the track ahead. It shows the status of the last AWS signal received by the TPWS Control Unit.
AWS ReceiverThe AWS Receiver is mounted under the train, also ideally on the bogie, and senses the track mounted AWS magnets and transmits their polarity to the TPWS Control Unit.
Other Cab ControlsMors Smitt also supply all the remaining switches required for a complete trainbourne TPWS installation.
TPWS Antenna/AerialThe TPWS Antenna is mounted under the train, ideally on the bogie, and senses the frequencies generated by the track mounted TPWS equipment and transmits them to the TPWS Control Unit.
TPWS Control UnitThe TPWS Control Unit is the heart of the TPWS system and is mounted inside the vehicle. It processes the inputs from the other system components as required by Railway Group Standards GE/RT8030 (TPWS) and GE/RT8035 (AWS).
TPWS2 DMI (Driver Machine Interface)All new vehicles entering service must now be fitted with an upgraded version of TPWS to GE/RT8030 Issue 4 and part of this upgrade is the addition of a DMI. The DMI is mounted in the driver’s desk as required by location of primary controls rules.
