Description

 The 2V16x Series relays are designed for the control of motor driven on-load power transformer tap changers. The 2V165 Series relays are designed to monitor & control the tap changers of up to four (4) transformers connected on a common bus & operating in the master slave control configuration. Master follower parallel control schemes traditionally use auxiliary switches on the tap changers to determine out of step errors. While this is a reliable & proven technique there are two significant drawbacks:
1. Wiring complexity between the tap changer auxiliary switches
2. Requirement for matched tap changers

The first issue is overcome by replacing each tap changer auxiliary switch with a TPI transducer (2V200), which sends a frequency signal proportional to the tap position. This requires only two wires for each tap changer & is simply wired back to the 2V165. The second issue is overcome with a user specified tap position logic table in the 2V165 to allow non-matched tap changers to operate together. The tap position of each transformer is monitored as well as the raise / lower commands initiated by the selected master voltage regulating relay. The 2V165 responds by sending the appropriate raise / lower commands to each tap changer in accordance with the tap position logic table.

Changes introduced on the 2V165-S
  • Case length reduced by 18mm to suit 4M56-S case;
  • LED backlighting to reduce EMC emissions – contrast adjustment no longer required;
  • Front panel USB programming port to increase data transfer speed and improve compatibility with notebook PC’s;
  • Network communications port is now optional to maintain low cost of base model;
  • Network communication port maintained the optically isolated RS485 serial port but the RS232 configuration option has been deleted;
  • New current and voltage channels to improve measurement stability;
  • New status input option covering 18-275V AC and 300V DC range;
  • Updated switchmode power supply to reduce EMC emissions and improve transient overload protection;
  • Surface mount production technology to allow increased component density for additional functionality now and in the future.
  • What has not changed from the 2V165
I/O and basic functionality has been maintained;
  • Basic menu structure and operation has been maintained;
  • Electrical terminal mapping has not changed allowing existing wiring diagrams to be maintained;
  • Compatibility with existing application software back to version 0500 maintained;
  • Compatibility with existing uMATRIXwin programming software maintained;
  • Modbus RTU network communication protocol maintained Case size 4 has been maintained although the length has been reduced.
  • Made in Australia
